Your BBQ will arrive wrapped and securely strapped to a pallet. Most items are shipped fully welded and assembled. The YS480s and YS640s models arrive in boxes with bases disassembled. CAN YODER SMOKERS BE USED IN RESTAURANTS?
Yes, Yoder Smokers are widely used in restaurants due to their professional performance, high quality, and distinctive image. Pellet grills, charcoal grills, and offset smokers can be used both indoors and outdoors. Contact us to find the best option for your needs.
WHAT IS A PELLET GRILL?
A pellet grill is an innovative outdoor cooking device that lets you set the temperature and cook with wood fire as conveniently as a gas grill, but with superior flavor. It supports grilling, baking, and low-and-slow smoking by simply filling it with wood pellets and pressing the Start button.
WILL MY PELLET GRILL WORK IN EUROPE?
Yes, Yoder Smokers produces all pellet grills specifically for European voltage and frequency, complying with CE standards. Each unit comes with a standard EU or UK plug, so you can easily plug in and start cooking.
WHERE CAN I BUY WOOD PELLETS FOR MY GRILL?
Pellet grills use 100% hardwood pellets such as oak, apple, and cherry. These pellets are available from us and other BBQ stores throughout Europe. With the increasing popularity of pellet grills, finding pellets has become more convenient.
WHAT IS AN OFFSET SMOKER?
An offset smoker is a traditional Texas-style smoker that uses indirect heat and smoke for cooking. The firebox is positioned to the side of the main cooking chamber, keeping the food away from direct contact with the fire. This method allows for slow cooking and imparts a rich, smoky flavor.
WHY ARE YODER SMOKER PRICES HIGHER THAN OTHER BRANDS?
Grills and smokers vary greatly in price and quality. Yoder Smokers are premium, handcrafted products made by BBQ enthusiasts for BBQ enthusiasts. Unlike the thinner, less durable models found in DIY stores, Yoder Smokers are built from thick, fully welded steel for optimal heat retention, smoke distribution, and longevity. The superior results and exceptional durability justify the price, which is evident in the taste and quality of the food they produce. Yoder Smokers represent the best in the market.
WHAT CAN I COOK WITH A YODER PELLET GRILL?
A Yoder Pellet Grill is versatile enough for grilling, smoking, baking, and roasting. Cook a rack of ribs, bake wood-fired pizza, or sear a steak—all over 100% natural hardwood fire and smoke with the ease of a gas grill.
CAN I SEAR A STEAK ON A YODER?
Yes, Yoder Smokers can reach high temperatures suitable for searing. Achieve a professional crust by grilling in the default mode, using the optional Direct Grilling Kit, or directly over the flame.
WHAT IS THE PELLET CONSUMPTION?
Pellet consumption ranges from 0.5–2 kg per hour, depending on temperature and environment. A 9 kg bag typically lasts up to 12 hours at standard low-and-slow BBQ temperatures (115°C), with an average consumption of about 0.75 kg/hour.
CAN I USE NORMAL HEATING PELLETS IN THE GRILL?
No, only use 100% natural hardwood pellets. Heating pellets made from softwoods like pine contain resins and potential toxins that can damage the grill and affect the food’s flavor and safety.
HOW DO I CLEAN THE ASH AFTER BURNING THE PELLETS?
Yoder pellet grills are highly efficient, producing only a small cup of ash per bag of pellets. Clean the firebox after every few cooks using an ash vacuum or similar tool.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE YS480 AND THE YS640?
The main differences are size and functionality. The YS640 has a 33% larger cooking surface and includes a Variable Displacement Damper (VDD) for two-zone cooking.
WHAT ARE THE COOKING GRATES MADE OF?
The main cooking grates are 6 mm steel bars with a chrome finish, and the second shelves are made from expanded steel.
ARE THE FRONT AND SIDE SHELVES INCLUDED?
Yes, they are made of steel bars with a chrome finish. The YS640 Comp Cart and YS1500 feature heavy-duty stainless steel shelves.
WHAT IS THE PELLET HOPPER CAPACITY?
The hopper has a capacity of 9 kg.
WHAT IS THE TEMPERATURE RANGE?
The temperature range is 150°F to 600°F (65°C to 315°C). With the Direct Grill Kit, it can exceed 700°F (370°C).
HOW DO YOU CONTROL THE TEMPERATURE?
Temperature is digitally controlled in 5°F or 5°C increments. The ACS models can be operated manually or via iOS/Android apps using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAT UP?
For direct grilling, it takes 10–15 minutes. For indirect cooking, the heat-up period is 20–30 minutes.
WHERE IS THE FIREBOX LOCATED?
The firebox is on the left side of the pit, optimizing airflow and minimizing hot spots to maximize the usable cooking area.
HOW DOES THE VARIABLE DISPLACEMENT DAMPER (VDD) WORK?
With the heat diffuser in place, the VDD allows for temperature control. Pushed in, the left side is hotter; pulled out, the right side heats up for more uniform heat across the grilling surface.
DOES THE PELLET AUGER EVER JAM?
No, Yoder pellet grills have a short, powerful auger that resists jamming.
HOW DO I CLEAN THE INSIDE OF THE PIT?
Remove the grill grates and diffuser plate, vacuum the body, use a thin knife for buildup removal, and wipe with a natural cleaner.
WHAT KIND OF PAINT IS USED ON YODER PELLET GRILLS?
Yoder Smokers are finished with satin black high-temperature stove paint. Scratches or chips can be easily repaired, and after years of use, grills can be repainted to look like new.
WHAT IS THE POWER CONSUMPTION?
Power consumption is 500W during the first 5 minutes when the igniter is active, and 60W thereafter.
HOW DOES AN OFFSET SMOKER WORK?
Offset smokers consist of a firebox, a main cooking chamber, and an optional vertical cooking chamber (in Durango models). Start by building a fire in the firebox. Heat flows from the firebox, through the cooking chamber, and exits via the chimney. The firebox damper primarily controls heat and combustion, with the chimney damper used for fine-tuning.
HOW IS AN OFFSET SMOKER DIFFERENT FROM A VERTICAL OR REAR FIREBOX DESIGN?
Vertical and rear firebox smokers use slow-burning charcoal with added wood chunks for flavor. Offset smokers use a small, hot fire, with wood as the main fuel and flavor source.
CAN I GRILL AND SMOKE ON AN OFFSET SMOKER?
Yes, there are three methods:
HOW DO YOU KEEP THE HEAT AND SMOKE IN THE PIT?
All Yoder Smoker offset pits are fully welded, with no stitch welding around the doors. The cooking chamber door is reinforced with 6.35mm x 25mm material and fully welded to minimize leakage.
ARE THE COOKING AND CHARCOAL/WOOD GRATES REMOVABLE?
Yes, all grates are removable.
HOW DOES THE HEAT MANAGEMENT PLATE WORK?
The plate installs against the common wall between the firebox and cooking chamber, forcing heat and smoke to travel under the plate and release evenly, reducing temperature variance across the chamber.
WHAT TYPE OF WOOD SHOULD I USE?
Use fruit or nut-bearing woods like apple, cherry, oak, pecan, hickory, or mesquite. Fruit woods provide a mild, sweet flavor; hardwoods offer a robust flavor. Mixing woods can create unique flavors and enhance the color of the meat.
HOW DO I BUILD THE FIRE?
Start with the firebox lid and dampers open for better airflow. Build a charcoal base, add wood once hot, and adjust dampers to halfway as the wood burns down. Maintain temperature by adding one log when needed.
HOW OFTEN DO I MAINTAIN MY FIRE?
Add one split log approximately every hour. An efficient fire produces thin, light-colored smoke. Heavy, white smoke indicates poor combustion and results in a harsh taste.
HOW DO I CONTROL TEMPERATURE?
Control temperature by managing the fuel amount and adjusting the firebox damper once the pit stabilizes at the desired temperature.
HOW DO I SEASON A NEW PIT?
Run the pit at 120°C or higher for 3–5 hours with any smoking wood. The pit is seasoned when the interior develops a thin black sheen.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAT UP?
It typically takes about 45 minutes to build a coal bed and heat the steel to the desired cooking temperature.
WHAT ABOUT TEMPERATURE EVENNESS?
Offset pits are hotter at the firebox end and cooler at the chimney end, making them ideal for cooking different cuts simultaneously. Using a Heat Management Plate evens out the temperature across the chamber.
HOW DO I CLEAN THE FIREBOX?
Each pit includes an ash clean-out tool for quick and easy ash removal.
HOW DO I CLEAN THE INSIDE OF THE PIT?
Disassemble the pit, vacuum the interior, remove buildup with a thin knife, and wipe it down with a citrus-based cleaner.
CAN I COOK IN THE WINTER?
Yes, Yoder Smokers perform well in any weather condition.
HOW LONG WILL THE SMOKER LAST?
Yoder Smokers are built to last a lifetime and come with a guarantee.
HOW HOT CAN THE FIREBOARD AND PROBES GET?
Standard thermistor probes and cables are rated from -18°C to 300°C (0°F to 572°F). The K-type thermocouples for the FireBoard 2 Pro can withstand up to 760°C (1400°F). The FireBoard unit itself is rated to 60°C (140°F), though internal testing indicates it may handle higher temperatures; however, some components are only certified to 60°C (140°F).
CAN I USE THE FIREBOARD WITH MY GAS, PROPANE, OR CHARCOAL GRILL?
Yes, FireBoard’s thermistor temperature probes are rated up to 300°C (572°F), which is sufficient for most grilling situations. Be cautious when temperatures near this limit, especially over direct flames.
CAN THE FIREBOARD BE USED WITHOUT CLOUD MONITORING?
Yes, the FireBoard can operate over Bluetooth for direct phone connections.
HOW LONG DOES THE DEVICE TAKE TO CHARGE AND HOW LONG DOES THE BATTERY LAST?
Charging takes 4–6 hours. The Li-Ion rechargeable battery lasts approximately 24 hours. The device can be powered by USB while recharging and will turn on automatically when connected to a USB power source.
WHAT TYPE OF BLUETOOTH CONNECTION DOES THE FIREBOARD UTILIZE?
The FireBoard uses Bluetooth 4.0 (Bluetooth Low Energy), eliminating the need for passcode entry. The app should automatically discover FireBoard devices. If issues arise, restarting the app and toggling Bluetooth (e.g., through airplane mode) may help.
IS THE FIREBOARD WEATHER RESISTANT?
